What are audio DVDs? DVDs
with complete illustrated menus which allow you to
select audio programs like movies, and play on your DVD
player. They're really keen. And only the Squadron
offers them! More details here.

Tired of the inconvenience of MP3 data disks?
Can't
read the filenames of the shows you would like to listen to
in that tiny little window on your CD player? Wish you had
an index to look at on the CD case? Fed up with trying to
play programs on the computer you are working on and
getting nothing but software conflicts? Would you rather
have something playing on your TV while you work on your
computer? Can't understand muffled or hissy audio on
"original" but unrestored selections? Wish you could use
convenient DVD-style illustrated menus to navigate lists of
titles? Wish you had complete collections of programs on
easy-to-identify disks with attractive illustrated covers?
Look no further, serial fans! Yet another Squadron
innovation is now available for your viewing and listening
pleasure -- the AUDIO DVD!
What's
a Squadron Audio DVD, you ask?
You mean just a DVD full of mp3s that you can use if you
have a DVD drive in your computer?
NOPE! An Audio DVD is something completely different -- it
is a fully authored video DVD which plays in your DVD
player (or computer with a DVD drive) that contains menus
full of audio files, and works just like a regular video
DVD!
It's
not a CD, it's a real DVD? And it works the same
way?
Right! You navigate through illustrated menus and select
them just as you do if you were selecting video files.
Imagine a second "extras" DVD which is part of a new movie
set you just purchased, which shows pictures and menu
selections on the screen while it plays audio files for
you, and you've got the idea. A Squadron Audio DVD is a DVD
which plays audio instead of movies, and which, lucky for
you, can hold up to TWO DAYS worth of material!
Comparison
Chart
Here's a comparison chart listing features of MP3 CDs and
Squadron Audio DVDs:

Here are pictures from the menus of some of the titles in
the new Squadron Audio DVD Collection:
When you load the DVD in your DVD player or computer you
get a Main Menu screen like this:
When you make your selection, you are taken to a sub-menu
with a list of titles within that section:
When you click on your selection, you are taken to an
illustrated screen which shows the title of the selection
you chose while it plays:
When the selection ends, the player automatically moves on
to the next episode in the series or section. You may
pause, stop, fast forward or rewind sections, or click to
the next track using your DVD remote, just as you would
with a movie DVD. Things couldn't be more
convenient!
Why
should I buy one of these collections? Can't I just
download some of these shows for free on the Net?
Sure, some versions of radio programs are available in raw
form on the net, sometimes incomplete, often including
redundant theme music, hissy or muffled sound, and with
unintelligibly long filenames. You can download them one at
a time, and then promptly misplace them, or try to assemble
them on CDs that don't burn correctly then decide you'll
keep them on your drive instead -- which fills up. You can
also download an electronic version of the text of HAMLET
anytime you want for free, but that's nothing like a
handsome printed volume of the play you can display on your
bookshelf and pick up any time to read without ever having
to load a computer! We prefer the ease of use and
convenience of being able to pop Squadron Audio DVDs in our
DVD player whenever we want, to be able to view a whole
list of titles onscreen and on the back of the DVD case,
using our familiar DVD remote to control playback and track
selection, and the reliability of the superior Squadron
product!
Are
you saying some of these programs actually sound better
than what I can get elsewhere?
That's correct, especially in the case of the BLUE BEETLE
and SHADOW OF FU MANCHU programs, of which up to this point
some episodes have only been available in
next-to-incomprehensible quality. EVERY PROGRAM on the new
Squadron Audio DVDs has been digitally enhanced for clarity
and is now clear and understandable. What a relief! All of
the Squadron Audio DVDs are mastered with Dolby Digital
sound which also assists in noise reduction and fidelity
enhancement. Bitrates for all recordings are 128 or higher.
Be sure and visit the various Audio DVD title selections at
left to hear comparisons of original and restored versions
of audio which we offer here for the first time.
