A four-chapter condensation of the original serial
The Lost City of the African
Jungle,
starring Juanita Hansen, George Chesebro, and lots of real
wild animals. A millionaire big game hunter named Jack and
his pal Pat O'Malley meet Lola, daughter of the ruler of
Wanda--a lost city of white people in Africa's interior --
and free her from a couple of nasty slave traders. Together
Jack, Pat and Lola must escape the dangers of the wild and
its predators, a pit of lions, and capture by the hooded
Black Legion from the Lost City.
This 1920 production was ground-breaking in that it was the
first serial set in Africa, the first to feature wild
animal action (with lions, tigers, apes and elephants from
the Selig zoo), the first "jungle queen" and the first
"lost city of the jungle" too. How all those tigers got to
Africa, though, we'll never know.
The serial also strongly influenced
THE ADVENTURES OF
TARZAN,
which followed it in 1922.
4 15-minute episodes with cliffhangers; color tinted,
restored, with new original musical score.
