"I didn't think we'd ever get to see a watchable print of
this exciting 1939 serial,
but thanks to the super-human efforts of the guys at the
Serial Squadron there is now
one available . . . They have spent several years now going
through the only known
source print to restore all the chapter openings and
beginnings in English, reconstruct
all the chapter recaps and chapter opening sequences and
reduce the hissy sound.
Most incredibly, through a variety of methods, they have
removed all the Spanish
subtitles that ruined the only copy previously available.
At first they thought they would
only be able to get rid of one and two line captions but
with the use of some clever
pasting over using untitled frames, they have removed the
three liners as well. If you
look closely you can sometimes see movement from the
pasting over but it's not worth
bothering about. At $24.95 it's an absolute steal
considering the painstaking work that
has gone into it -- a true labour of love." -- John
