THE SERIAL SQUADRON CINEMA CLIFFHANGER FILM ARCHIVE
Below are listed some of the film, video, and print holdings of the Serial Squadron Cinema Cliffhanger Archive. We have just started this list and have much more to catalog so please do not consider this a complete list of our holdings.
The purpose of this archive is to preserve material related to the American cliffhanger movie serial and series films, 1912-1956 and funds from Squadron DVDs and SerialFest have already been invested in purchase and restoration of many of these items.
"DV" means Digital Video and indicates a high-quality digital transfer, often from an original film. "LD" = Laserdisc. We have some film, video, or substantial print content from all titles listed in bold & will continue to catalog that here more specifically as time allows. No notation is made for titles which we have only small quantities of stills, scans, or magazine advertisements; we have some documentation of one kind or another for almost every serial now.
If you are working on a research project we may be able to supply copies of some pre-1938 material (only) upon request. E-mail us and tell us what you are looking for and we will respond and tell you if we will be able to help.
ARCHIVAL COPIES OF FILMS
Copies of restorations of certain older serial titles which for whatever reason we cannot release commercially are (legally) obtainable upon request for purposes of historical research or study. These are now listed on our DVDs link along with commercial DVD titles.
We will add to this list as more titles are donated to or purchased by the Archive.
Some of these titles can only be made available for such purposes if they are over 75 years old as well as either out of print or never published by the original producer. If you are a cinema historian or student the law allows you to order a copy of these titles under the condition that you understand it may not be exhibited, copied or sold without permission of the rightsholder (if any), and it is understood that if you order a copy of a Squadron serial in any form you agree to those terms.
If any title listed here is released by its studio as a commercial product, it will be removed from this list.
We apologize if the list is somewhat outdated as new material passes in and out of the Squadron every month.
