The Masked Marvel, secretly one of four insurance investigators, fights Mura Sakima, an Axis spy who kills Alice Hamilton’s father. An adventure originally conceived to have featured a masked Lone Ranger-like Western hero and use the "who is the hero" setup first featured in the 1938 Lone Ranger serial. But before production the decision was made to update the character as a modern-day spy-fighter very similar to the character appearing in Keen Detective Funnies. So no, the Masked Marvel had nothing to do with The Spirit, he was Republic pictures' version of the Green Hornet.
